1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates generally to transferring information into and out of a mobile communication device and more specifically to providing user remote, location-based data transfer into and out of the mobile communication device, as well as user alert notification.
2. Discussion of the Prior Art
The number of new users of mobile communication devices, such as cellular or wireless telephones, personal digital assistants, pagers, etc., continues to grow. User adoption of these devices is quite high. At the same time, these devices have also proven very popular as information transfer devices. Moreover, many users use these devices frequently. In fact, users may use these devices almost around the clock. Consequently, the number of mobile communication devices continues to grow even as data entry and data retrieval is simplified by the use of push-button interfaces, large keypads and other features of such devices. As a result, there has been a great deal of effort to develop user friendly methods for transferring data into and out of mobile communication devices.
One method for transferring data into mobile communication devices is with a Personal Information Manager (“PIM”) application. PIM is a set of software tools for storing contact and appointment information, task and note lists, to-do lists, and other personal information. PIM is typically installed and maintained on a user’s desktop or laptop computer. A user can access the data and information stored on the PIM application using, for example, a wireless PIM device, such as a Palm device. The wireless PIM device is, in effect, a memory device which allows users to access the same data and information stored on the PIM application using the wireless PIM device, as they would using their desktop or laptop computer. The wireless PIM device typically can store all of the data and information on the PIM application, as well as create or
