* Adding digital effects
Photoshop has the capability to add brightness, color, and tone to your images. You can also easily use Photoshop’s tools to erase parts of an image or adjust the color or exposure of an image.
* Creating complicated graphics with filters
You can apply a variety of filters (see Chapter 9 for a full listing) to your images. Filters can transform an image in many ways. By applying filters to your pictures, you can design them into an artistic work of art, colorize them, or make them look like another picture.
* Editing your images after the fact
You can undo the last action you made or save your work in a file so that you can reload it later. Some old photos contain remnants of editing or retouching. Photoshop enables you to erase such remnants, allowing you to design your image exactly the way you want.
* Creating a masterpiece
With Photoshop’s editing tools, you can create beautiful paintings, sculptures, and other projects that require a lot of fine details. By using layers to build up an image, you can layer a variety of textures, patterns, and colors to design your own masterpiece. This is a great way to exercise your creativity.
Working with a Layer
A group of layers is referred to as a stack, and when you add a new layer, you may be prompted to turn on “Keep Layers Organized,” which enables you to continue working with multiple layers.
Photoshop layers can have their own backgrounds; you can then use them to create unique effects and more easily edit images.
To turn on this option, follow these steps:
1. **Right-click (Windows) or Control+click (Mac) to display the shortcut menu.**
The shortcut menu appears.
2. **From the shortcut menu, choose Layer or Layers, as shown in** **Figure** **20-4** **.**
This menu lets you decide which set of Layers (more than 300) you want to work with. Each layer has a _Layer Background_ and an _Layer Mask._
3. **At the bottom of the menu, choose one of the four types of Layers (Basic, Adjustment, Clipping Mask, or Gradient Fill), which is the one you want to work with.**
You’re ready to start working with your layers!

In this post we go through every feature of Photoshop Elements and write down what you can do with them. There are plenty of guides on Medium, but we’re trying to make it easier for you to find the right guide. So feel free to comment if you have any feature requests or other information that should be added here.
We are going to discuss:
What are Elements?
What are the features that can’t be found on the free version?
What are the limitations?
How do I learn Photoshop Elements?
Who is this guide for?
What are Elements?
An image editor is something that can be used to change, modify, retouch or manipulate existing images. In that sense Photoshop Elements is an image editor as well.
For things that are available only on the professional version, Photoshop Elements will let you open PSD files, edit images, make sure you can do all the things Photoshop Elements is capable of. There is no built-in support for advanced filters like healing and artistic effects.
Since Elements is not a professional version of Photoshop, you have less features and access to fewer features.
What are the features that can’t be found on the free version?
A few of the features are missing from the free version:
Simplified tools. You don’t have advanced selection tools. You don’t have automated selection tools. You can’t make complex selections by splitting an area into different paths. You can’t apply selection to one image and apply it to another image.

Michael D’Antonio is author of the new book, “Never Enough: Donald Trump and the Pursuit of Success” (St. Martin’s Press). The opinions expressed in this commentary are his. View more opinion articles on CNN.
(CNN) President Donald Trump loves to talk about winning, but for much of his first three years in office he was losing.
For a New Yorker, his frustration at a losing streak becomes something far more grievous than if his guests had lost money. If the man has a piece of you, it is nearly impossible to claw back.
As Michael D’Antonio writes in his new book, “Never Enough: Donald Trump and the Pursuit of Success,” Trump’s striving to achieve every success that he lands becomes almost insatiable. Trump is thrilled if he can rebrand himself on the boards of Fortune 500 companies. He relishes the plaudits and the headlines that are part of being the first businessman to enter the White House. But the second he lands on the circuit, he wants more.
His response to being dismissed was, as Bill Clinton told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week” in September 2017: “It’s not about me. It’s about what’s going on with our country.”
We have a President who had six months to learn that lesson — twice in the election, and again after his victory — but did not.

“Generally speaking, I believe it is a good thing for children to spend time on the computer and in other applications where they may be exposed to bad and the good, but I think that what’s most important is that they understand that life is a series of moments and that they have the opportunity to live those moments,” says Walt Hurst, director of science education for the Royal Society of Canada. “They understand the importance of the balance between the virtual and real, and they begin to see that being at home is just one slice of their life. I don’t think this has anything to do with whether it’s good or bad or any of that.
“We have an opportunity right now to teach them about a really important part of science that isn’t on the curriculum. We’re not just a science and technology curriculum. We’re a science curriculum.”
Hurst, who says he speaks on this subject with some regularity, points to the rise of internet culture as a catalyst for the growing age of children going online. Being computer savvy, curious, and self-starters, he says, children are often the first to jump on to the latest technological innovation.
“If you’re a parent, I would think that the most important thing is to have a conversation with your kids,” he says. “Look at the things that you’re seeing and the information that’s being presented, because they’re spending a lot of time with screens. A conversation is a great way to talk about what the medium of technology is going to be.”
His experiences with a family who regularly came up with creative uses for technology (such as playing games on their iPhone while driving) and with other children whose lives were disrupted by the death of a parent or sibling are also proof positive of the importance of understanding technology in a personal and healthy way.
“I think when you look at this field, it seems pretty apparent that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages,” he says. “It seems, I’m going to go along this line, that there are advantages that the world as we know it will be a better place for the use of technology.”
He says he also looks at it from a more theoretical, philosophical perspective: “We live in a different age now. We have a society where a lot
